Here at Women Embrace Adventure (WEA), we’ve discovered that “fun” isn’t one-size-fits-all. Whether you’re paddling glassy waters, sweating your way up a mountain, or battling the elements with laughter and grit, every adventure has its own unique type of fun. Enter the WEA Fun Scale – a guide to the ups, downs, and unforgettable moments that make every experience worth it.
Type 1 Fun – “Pure Joy Fun”
This is the golden standard of fun. The kind where your cheeks ache from smiling, and your heart is full. Picture this: kayaking calm waters under a bright blue sky, hiking scenic trails with perfect weather, spotting wildlife, and sharing snacks with your crew. It’s all laughs, awe, and the occasional happy tear.
You don’t just enjoy the moment – you savor it. By the time you’ve packed up your paddle or peeled off your hiking boots, you’re already scheming your next adventure. This is the kind of fun that keeps you coming back for more.
Type 2 Fun – “Delayed Gratitude Fun”
Here’s where the challenge kicks in. Your legs are burning from climbing endless stairs, your arms ache from paddling into a relentless headwind, and you find yourself muttering, “What was I thinking?”
But then, it’s over. You’re standing at a jaw-dropping lookout, sipping a well-earned tea at camp, or collapsing in satisfied exhaustion after conquering the day. That’s when it hits you: You did it. And it feels incredible. Suddenly, the sweat, sore muscles, and those fleeting moments of doubt transform into a memory you wouldn’t trade for the world.
Type 2 Fun is about pushing your limits and discovering just how unstoppable you are – and yes, you’ll definitely be signing up for the next one.
Type 3 Fun – “Never Again Fun”
And then, there’s Type 3 Fun. The kind of fun you swear you’ll never do again. Even weeks (ok, maybe months) later, when you’re finally able to laugh about it, it’s still a firm NO. NEVER AGAIN.
Picture this: relentless rain soaking you for hours, with 4 kilometers of trail still ahead. Or a never-ending climb that feels completely vertical, every muscle in your body screaming, “JUST STOP!” Maybe it’s a kayak capsize (or two) into icy waters, with wind slapping your face as you mutter (or shout), “This is NOT what I signed up for!”
But here’s the thing about Type 3 Fun: it always makes for the best stories. Over wine (and after plenty of time to recover), you’ll reenact the drama with exaggerated flair and endless laughter. You’ll feel a glimmer of pride for surviving, even if you’re swearing, “NEVER AGAIN.”
Having said all that, at WEA, Type 3 Fun is very rare, it almost always reverts back to Type 2 Fun. It may take a few months, but because of the support, motivation, and laughter shared with the incredible women surrounding you on our adventures, that rarely heard “NEVER EVER AGAIN”, usually transforms into something much more hopeful: “Maybe one day…”
And that’s the magic of WEA – turning challenges into triumphs and making every adventure unforgettable.
The Magic of the WEA Fun Scale
Every adventure has its moments of Type 1, Type 2, and yes, even Type 3 Fun. That’s what makes it real, raw, and memorable. The WEA Fun Scale isn’t just about the activity itself – it’s about the camaraderie, the laughter, the challenges, and the triumphs that come with embracing adventure.
So, whether you’re here for the “Pure Joy Fun” of kayaking calm waters, the “Delayed Gratitude Fun” of conquering a tough trail, or the “Never Again Fun” that keeps you laughing for years to come, there’s a place for you on every WEA adventure.
Because at the end of the day, every type of fun reminds us of one thing: We are capable of more than we ever imagined.
Now, which type of fun are you ready for next?
